Erik Knockaert practices in the areas of patent, copyright, trademark and trade secret law, concentrating on litigation, transactions and opinion work. Erik was named to the 2007 Texas Super Lawyers Rising Star list.
Erik's patent litigation experience includes the fields of chemistry, software, electronics, biotechnology and mechanics. He has also worked extensively defending personal injury claims due to chemical exposures and defending companies in commercial disputes and shareholder derivative actions. Additionally, Erik took the lead role defending a $14 million contractual indemnity claim, and forced the plaintiff, a major oil company, to dismiss all defendants.
Erik is experienced in planning litigation strategies with clients, conducting all phases of discovery, taking and defending depositions, drafting motions, arguing hearings, preparing for trial and negotiating settlements. He also has experience preparing and prosecuting patent and trademark applications, analyzing intellectual property issues and drafting contracts involving intellectual property rights. Before attending law school, Erik worked as an engineer for Exxon Chemical in Baton Rouge.
